The Committee carries out plot inspections every couple of months to ensure plots are being looked after and used for growing. It’s all pretty common sense stuff.
The main things we’re looking for are:
- More than half of the plot is being used for growing, be it veg, fruit or flowers, from March to October.
- You’re staying on top of weeds and waste.
- You’re generally managing your plot in line with the allotment’s rules, like ensuring any trees do not exceed 2.5 metres in height.
We know life ebbs and flows, and there may be times where it’s hard to stay on top of things. If ever you’re struggling, have a chat with the committee and we’ll do what we can to help. For example, it may be possible for other members to temporarily help care for your plot.
If your plot does not meet the rules, we’ll follow the process outlined in detail in section 7 of the allotment rules. Broadly that looks like:
- Notifying you via email of any issues we noticed, and asking you to address them within 28 days.
- Reinspecting your plot after 28 days to see how you’re getting on.
- If no improvements have been made, we’ll give you two weeks’ notice before repossessing the plot. This notice will be rescinded if the plot is fully brought up to standard within that time.
